What is in the News from a Biblical Perspective
(2 Chronicles 20:6 )
"O LORD, God of our fathers, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you." 2 Chronicles 20:6
What is in the news, from a Biblical perspective. This is one of those days when I want to hit on several things that have been in the news as of late, and put them into a Biblical perspective for you. You've heard these stories and no doubt commentaries on them from different viewpoints, but today I want to cover them with you through the filter of God's Word.
The first is the unbelievable offer by Notre Dame to invite President Obama to give the commencement address at that great school in a few months. Notre Dame is of course a Catholic University, and for those running this prestigious university to invite the most pro-death President in our nation's history, a man who has demonstrated that he is an enemy of God to speak there, is tantamount to a Jewish University inviting a Nazi sympathizer to give their commencement address.
I pray all good Catholics will voice their outrage and that large donors of Notre Dame will express their disgust by withholding their gifts unless this mockery is corrected. Whoever made the ultimate decision to make this invitation should be banished to a parish in Siberia and the offer to have President Obama give the commencement address should be rescinded immediately.
The big story last week was the bonuses paid to executives at AIG. First, it is hilarious the government is so upset after giving AIG 170 BILLION without any strings attached, that they are trying to make a few executives who were contractually owed this money out to be the villains. The government had no business getting involved and if they had let AIG fail, guess what, there would have been no money to pay these bonuses!
Competitors in the industry would have taken over the profitable pieces of AIG and the free markets would have sorted things out as they always have. It is the government's intervention in AIG, the banking and financial industries, and the auto industry, that has only made the current economic crisis worse.
However, be fully aware that the government's intervention into the business world, the certain nationalizing of the banks in the near future, fall right in line with President Obama's socialist philosophy. This is important from a Biblical perspective since it will help set the stage for the fulfillment of Revelation.
I will devote an entire Devotional to this issue very soon, but the drive to destroy capitalism and embrace socialism by our government makes it possible for the rise of the anti-Christ (someone FAR more superior than President Obama) and the reality of a one world government, one world economy, and one world religion. These things that seemed pretty much impossible just 20 years ago, are now not only possible, but becoming more probable each day.
With churches closing every week and an estimated 100,000 non-profits shutting down by the end of the year for lack of funding, our illustrious President has now decided to REDUCE the amount someone in the top tax bracket can deduct for charitable giving. At a time when people should be encouraged to GIVE, this genius who has never even run a lemonade stand in his life, wants to cut down on the amount the top givers can deduct, the very people every charitable organization relies on for a large percentage of their funding.
President Obama has spent more money in the first 2 months of his Presidency than all the Presidents since George Washington combined! He has initiated massive spending efforts despite the economic crisis to insure this nation becomes totally dependent upon the government for everything.
Lastly, is the sad plane crashes this past weekend. One a private plane with 14 on board heading to a ski vacation, the other a FedEx plane at Tokyo's Narita Airport. Please be in prayer for all the families who lost loved ones. What these sad tragedies are is a constant reminder that the Bible is true when is tell us that tomorrow is promised to none of us, that each day is a gift from God.
We never know when God will call us home, and that is why we must not put off giving our heart and life to Jesus by faith and surrendering our life to Him. Let me encourage you today, If you have never asked Jesus into your life, or do not have the assurance that if you died today you would be with God for eternity, pray for God to open your heart, then read the words and watch the short video at this link: http://www.liveprayer.com/bdy_salvatn.html I will be praying for you as you do!
I love you and care about you so much. I promised myself I wouldn't do it, but I can't help it. I TOLD YOU SO! God gave the people what they wanted, just like He gave the people of Israel a king despite the warnings of His prophet!!!
The impromptu tea parties that are sprouting up around the country are symbolic of the outrage at the government but they miss the point. Mormon Glenn Beck's 912 Project sounds good and he pushes it on his radio and TV programs with passion, but it also misses the point. As I have been sharing with you these past 6 months, there is NO HOPE for this nation other than to turn back to God and Biblical values.
We are under the judgment of God and complete repentance and a turning back to God by this nation is the ONLY ANSWER! There are no economic answers, there are no political answers, the ONLY ANSWER is to turn back to God. I will deal with this in depth in my Devotional tomorrow, don't miss it!
In His love and service, Your friend and brother in Christ, Bill Keller
