This Petition will be hand delivered to President Bush and to Nancy Pelosi
and Harry Reid as leaders of the United Stated Congress on Tuesday, December
16, 2008.
To: President George W. Bush and the United States Congress,
We the undersigned, hereby urge President George W. Bush and the United
States Congress to call for a National Day of Prayer and Fasting in the
United States of America for the economy on Thursday, December 18, 2008.
This nation since its founding has recognized its dependence upon Almighty
God. We have a rich tradition in our land of setting aside time to confess
our sins and transgressions, in humility, with the assured hope from the
Holy Scriptures that genuine repentance will lead to God's mercy and pardon
and that our nation's blessings come from our Creator.
God has richly blessed us over these past 232 years and we have squandered
those blessings. We have turned our back and forsaken God, turning instead
to the false gods and idols of this world. We deserve His wrath and
punishment for our wickedness, and can only escape God's judgment on our
nation by turning our hearts and lives back to Him and His Truth.
Our nation is in the midst of an economic crisis that is not going to be
solved by the wisdom of men or any amount of money, but only by the grace
and mercy of Almighty God. When facing God's judgment, the King of Nineveh
called his people to repent and turn back to God. The people obeyed and God
mercifully stayed His hand of judgment on Nineveh.
We call upon you as the ones the people of the United States have elected to
lead our nation, to follow the example of past Presidents and Congress, and
call the people of our land to fast and pray for God's favor and blessings
on our economy.
The Bible states in 2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, which are called by
my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from
their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin,
and will heal their land."
